Pinel Medical Restraints are trusted across industries

Hospitals, mental health facilities, long-term care facilities, and detention centres all count on Pinel medical restraints to help keep patients and staff safe.

Across Industries

Pinel offers the strength, comfort, flexibility, and durability needed

Across various sectors and facilities, there are different reasons to need medical restraints—and different considerations to take into account.

Hospitals

A hospital setting has a range of patients receiving different forms of care: a medical emergency, serious illness, or mobility issues due to surgery or medical condition. All of them may require the use of hospital restraints at some point during their hospital visit to help keep doctors, nurses, other hospital staff, and even fellow patients safe.

Pinel’s hospital restraints allow for comfort, mobility, and protection from falls. Our gait belt (waist belt) allows for easier mobility for patients who need exercise or to simply move about their room.

And since we use comfortable, durable layers of textiles including para-aramides (ie. Kevlar™) and other anti-microbial materials instead of stiff leather or sticky vinyl, patients who need to be restraints for longer periods of time can still be comfortable and secure.

Ambulances / EMS

From patients in a mental health crisis to dangerous offenders to those under the influence of drugs or alcohol, first responders and paramedics have to be ready for anything. And often times, there isn’t a moment to waste.

They need medical restraints, such as transfer belt with handles, shoulder belts and limb belts, that are quick and easy to put on stretchers, but also strong and secure. Also, being in the confined spaces of an ambulance means there is, literally, no room for error. Pinel gives immediate security, with medical restraints that are able to be applied in as little as 30 seconds.

How often should restraints need to be removed?

As we mentioned earlier, our goal is to be able to remove restraints as soon as possible.

But in some cases that is just not possible. And that is why our special blend of materials offers a more comfortable and secure restraint solution that can be worn longer.

Our butterfly cuff is angled to provide a tight and even pressure across the wrist. This allows the restraint to be applied longer than traditional restraints. This can depends on the hospital’s policy.

Mental Health Facilities

Patients struggling with their mental health can sometimes have unpredictable actions, putting themselves, other patients, and staff at risk. That is why, in a mental hospital, restraints need to be applied by staff quickly and securely.

Many patients are often in mental health facilities for long periods of time. The Pinel system can be modified and optimized to meet the perfect combination of security and comfort. And our de-restraining method is designed to allow staff to reward patients by removing restraints incrementally and allowing for more mobility.

Long-Term Care Facilities

Some regions do not permit restraints in nursing homes or long-term care facilities, however, when they are permitted, you want to use restraints that offer comfort and safety.

Long-term care facilities are often to patients with dementia and those older in years who need both comfort and security. Pinel offers both. Our bed restraints for dementia patients are made from soft durable layers of textiles including para-aramides (ie. Kevlar™) and other anti-microbial materials that don’t irritate skin and can be worn for longer periods of time. They also don’t cut into wrist or ankles.

Security & Detention

When dealing with dangerous offenders, quick and secure is key. Pinel’s prison restraints are equipped with our simple locking system. That means staff can restrain a violent person within 30 seconds. And our De-Restraining Method, a form of prison control and restraint techniques gives staff the opportunity to offer rewards, as in more mobility, for good behaviour.
